"The Maya Civilization and the End of the World". Mexican History Lecture. The “Proyecto Cultural Mexicana” at Instituto Español in Second Life celebrates, “2012, Year of the Maya.” As part of her ongoing Mexican history lecture series, Maestra Eugenia Calderon presents "The Mayan Civilization and the End of the World." This lecture will be presented in Spanish, live from the Zócalo, Instituto Español in Second Life on Saturday June 2nd, 4:00 pm Pacific Time. "Second Life como Herramienta en la Enseñanza del Idioma Español", presented by Professor Eugenia Calderon at the "IX Conversatorio USMP Virtual 2011".


Instituto Espanol Spanish Professor Eugenia Calderon presented the lecture "Second Life como Herramienta en la Enseñanza del Idioma Español" at the "IX Conversatorio USMP Virtual 2011" of the Universidad de San Martín de Porres in Perú. The lecture took place on October 22th, 2011, at the amphitheater of USMP Virtual in Secondlife.

The presentation is in Spanish. The theme is the experences of Maestra Calderon using Second Life like a tool to teach Spanish.

5 de Mayo !!! Viva México !!


 

Cinco de Mayo (May 5th) is celebrated in Mexico to commemorate the defeat of the French army at the hands of the Mexican Navy in 1862 near the city of Puebla. This event is examined in the context of the French invasion of Mexico after President Benito Juarez refused to pay debt owed ​​to France.

Topics to be discussed will be the events proceeding the conflict, the battle, and aftermath. To conclude, Maestra Calderon will discuss the differences between how 5 de Mayo is celebrated in the United States and Mexico.

Topics in Intermediate and Advanced Spanish: Class Description.

Topics in Intermediate and Advanced Spanish is a weekly class taught by Eugenia Calderon designed to provide review opportunities for new and existing students alike. The particular topic of the day may be determined by specific review needs of existing students, special request, or pure whim. The class can be attended personally in Second Life, listened to live on a stream, or be viewed and re-viewed on the Instituto Espanol blog a few days after each class.

Because the course is streamed on the Internet and produced in lecture format, student questions will be taken on the Instituto Espanol blog or in live text chat in Second Life, and then forwarded to Maestra Calderon to be answered after each lecture. Topics in Intermediate and Advanced Spanish will be taught in Spanish.

Students interested in taking these classes in a small group classroom setting at a time convenient to their personal schedule may contact Eugenia Calderon directly in Second Life. Both Intermediate and Advanced classes are offered in 10 class hour blocks and cost only $65.00 and $75.00 USD respectively.
